Lando Norris edged out fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the final moments of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix. The British racer, who grabbed the championship lead from Piastri by a single point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, beat the Australian by 0.023 seconds. Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren during the running before the sprint shootout scheduled for 18:30 GMT. Max Verstappen, the only other driver in realistic title contention, trailing 36 points Norris, ended up in 17th position as his team opted for a alternative strategy. His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to crash, albeit lightly, when he lost control at corner four early in the session.
