Per recent claims from a whistleblower, Ghislaine Maxwell, currently serving a two-decade sentence for sex-trafficking crimes, is reportedly preparing a commutation application for consideration by the Trump administration.

Special Treatment Alleged at Correctional Facility

Congressional Democrats on the House judiciary committee revealed that a whistleblower provided evidence indicating the inmate is working on the commutation application. They also stated she has been receiving special treatment at the minimum-security facility in Texas.

Representative Jamie Raskin, the top Democrat on the committee, stated in a news release that the facility's chief was assisting Maxwell with copying, printing, and sending documents to support her bid for executive mercy.

The exact content of the clemency request are unclear, Raskin added.

Claimed Perks and Special Accommodations

The representative claims that, per the insider, the prisoner has been given specially prepared food that are “personally delivered” to her living area, and the warden has “personally arranged” exclusive visits for Maxwell and her visitors.

These meetings allegedly include a “special cordoned-off area” for attendees and “an assortment of snacks and refreshments” for her associates.

Those visiting Maxwell were also allowed to carry electronic devices, which the congressman characterized as an “unprecedented action” given the security risk and chance of unmonitored communications.

Reportedly on one occasion, when phone lines went down for other inmates, she was given specific instructions about who she should tell her associates to call and how personnel would relay the call to her.

Supervisor Acting as Assistant

The whistleblower further reportedly told House Democrats that when the convict wanted to review and edit documents “quickly”, she “essentially used” the warden as her private aide.

The statement indicates that those writing to her would email documents directly to the supervisor, who would provide them to Maxwell, for her to examine and change and return them to the warden to scan and provide to the initial correspondent.

Additional Privileges Alleged

Further perks reportedly provided to her include opportunities to interact with a service dog puppy – a benefit not “ordinarily allowed” – as well as private after-hours access to the facility's gym.

Her legal counsel did not immediately respond to a inquiry regarding the insider's allegations.

In a statement, the White House said that it “will not discuss” on possible pardon appeals.

“As President Trump has stated, granting clemency to the convict is not something he has thought about,” the spokesperson noted.

Context and Developments

Recently, it was reported that Maxwell told close associates in electronic messages that she was “much happier” at the new prison than her former location.

This past summer, Maxwell was transferred from a secure facility in Florida's capital to the less restrictive prison in Texas, where most inmates are incarcerated for non-violent offenses and white-collar crimes.

The transfer, which authorities called as exceptional, occurred just shortly following she was interviewed about the Jeffrey Epstein investigation by the senior justice official, Todd Blanche, who also previously served as the President's personal lawyer.

This questioning came as the Trump administration was facing increasing scrutiny to release more documents related to the ongoing probe and amid intense speculation around the President's own connections to the disgraced financier and convicted sex offender, who was found dead in a New York jail in that year while awaiting prosecution on sex-trafficking charges.

Congressional Response

In the news release, Raskin also revealed that he had sent a letter to the President, requesting explanations about the insider's claims, and urged the president to deny Maxwell’s commutation request.

“It would be inappropriate to approve any form of clemency to this adjudicated and remorseless criminal,” the representative stated in the letter. “The government must not offer her with room service, with puppies to play with, with government agents waiting on her every need, or with any special treatment or facility benefit at all.”

The congressman asked that Blanche appear for a public congressional hearing to discuss the revelations and also presented several inquiries to Trump.

He inquired whether Trump had talked about a possible clemency for Maxwell with the official or others, whether he had directed him or anyone else to provide her with the transfer or favorable and preferential treatment in detention, and whether she, her lawyers, relatives or representatives have made any commitments to the President or his legal team.

The representative requested for a reply to the inquiries by the specified date.

In October, the US supreme court rejected an appeal from Maxwell on her sex-trafficking conviction.
